The Building Department is responsible for enforcing the Connecticut State Building Code (CSBC). There are no local building codes specific to Seymour. The State Building Code cycles every 3 to 5 years to keep codes current as construction methods and materials evolve. The code is enforced through project plan compliance reviews prior to permits being issued. Once the permit has been issued, multiple inspections are performed to verify compliance. The intent of the CSBC as defined therein is to “establish minimum requirements to safeguard the public safety, health and general welfare.” There are several different classifications of licensing for building inspectors all of which are mandated by the Connecticut General Statutes to maintain continuing education credits to stay abreast of any and all code changes. We work alongside the Planning & Zoning and Inland Wetlands. While each department oversees certain aspects of development inSeymour, we as a team strive to provide guidance and technical support to residents, developers and business owners.

Permits are as follows:

  • building
  • electrical
  • plumbing
  • heating
  • oil tank
  • water pump
  • swimming pool
  • sign
  • Central A/C
  • Demolitions
