Garbage and Recycling Changes

The Town of Seymour will be seeing a lot of changes in the coming weeks with regards to their garbage and recycling pickup.  Residents will be receiving two 96-gallon wheeled toters, one for garbage and one for recycling.  Attached to these bins will be a packet of information that will explain the changes you can expect.  Here are some highlights:

  • 98% of residents will keep same garbage pickup day, but some will have to switch.  Information on your pickup day is included in the packet.
  • Recycling pickup will now be held weekly on the same day as garbage pickup.
  • Only the containers issued by our contractor, Winters Brothers, will be able to be used for pickup beginning November 1st, 2014.
  • We ask all residents to give the 96-gallon containers a chance, but if you have difficulty moving them, 64-gallon containers are available.
  • If residents think that one 96-gallon container won't be sufficient, additional bins can be purchased from Winters Brothers at $75 each.
  • If Seymour generates just 76 additional tons of recycling annually, this change will be cost-neutral to taxpayers.
  • Residents don't have to separate recyclables (i.e. paper, plastic, glass) and can recycles plastics #1-7.
  • If you have any questions, call (203) 888-2511 and ask for Rory or email him at rburke@seymourct.org

This transition will not be without issues, but we are working closely with Winters Brothers to make the transition as smooth as possible.  We ask that you review the materials in the packet to familiarize yourself with the changes.  We also ask for your patience during the transition.
