Seymour Historical Society Presents Old-Time Baseball Program Yankees, Red Sox and Mets fans can all agree on one thing – Rich Marazzi knows his baseball. The Ansonia native, who has authored five books on the sport, will host a special program at the Seymour Historical Society on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1p.m. Marazzi’s presentation will focus on Naugatuck Valley baseball teams of the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, a time when residents still rooted for top semi-pro squads from their hometowns as well as their favorite big league teams. He’ll tell stories about the powerful Seymour Alumni team, which recruited players from throughout the Valley. He’ll trace the career of Al Konikowski, the only Seymour player ever to make the Major Leagues. Konikowski, a pitcher, played for the New York Giants during two seasons in which they made it to the World Series. Marazzi’s baseball books include “The Rules and Lore of Baseball,” and “Aaron to Zuverink: A Nostalgic Look at the Players of the Fifties.” He’s also written for several magazines, including “Yankees Magazine” and “Baseball Digest,” hosted radio talk shows, served as a rules consultant for Major League teams, and umpired amateur and professional games for more than two decades. There is no admission charge, and cold drinks will be available. The museum’s exhibits will be available for viewing after the program. The Seymour Historical Society museum is located at 59 West Street, near the Trinity Episcopal Church. For more information, call 203-881-2156 or write to psussman@snet.net.
