Emergency Services
The following is
a listing of Emergency Services available in the Town.
Fire Departments:
The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and
rescue protection for residents. The department consists of two companies
with a membership of approximately 150 volunteers. It is managed by
a fire chief and three assistant chiefs. The fire chiefs report to the
Board of Fire Commissioners whose members are appointed by the selectman.
The following fire companies provide fire protection using 12 pieces of
apparatus and two chiefs' vehicles. Click on the link to go to their
websites.
Both fire companies also sponsor numerous events
such as Easter Egg Hunts and taking Santa through the neighborhoods prior to the
Christmas holidays.
The Seymour Fire Department also has a Dive Team
which provides equipment and expertise for handling water emergencies. In
addition to working with the fire department, the Dive Team also provides a wide
variety of other water rescue and recovery services, including water safety
education and training.
Police Department
(203) 881-7600 non emergency number
The town is served by a full-time force
of 34 officers, augmented by a part-time force of five officers. There are
two full-time civilians and five part-time civilians providing ancillary
services for the department. The department is overseen by a Board of
Police Commissioners, which is responsible for establishing policies and
procedures.
The department has 15 vehicles, three of which are new this year, and used by
patrol, detectives and administration. The department has a youth officer,
who works with all of the town's schools and a community officer. A school
resource officer serves Seymour High School and Seymour Middle School courtesy
of a federal grant.
The Police Department conducts a number of community programs including the DARE
anti-drug program in the fifth, eighth and high school grades.
Ambulance
(203) 888-8843
The Seymour Ambulance Association is
the provider of all ambulance and emergency services for the town. Founded
in 1969, the association is one of the premier volunteer ambulance services in
the U.S. having been chosen in 2000 as the National EMS Service of the Year by
the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. It is the
mission of the Seymour Ambulance to provide and maintain an emergency medical
services system which will protect, educate, and serve the residents of the town
of Seymour as well as surrounding communities in a consistent and professional
manner without profit and subject to all laws and regulations.

To this end, the association's 100 volunteer members work to achieve the highest
levels of standards in the emergency medical services profession as MRTs, EMTs,
EMT-Is and paramedics.
The association is the lead organization of the William King, Sr., Health and
Safety Institute, providing health and safety training programs across southern
Connecticut. In addition, the association boasts the only EMS-based injury
prevention programs in the U.S. in its Safe Communities Program of the lower
Naugatuck Valley and its Valley-Amity Safe Kids Coalition. These programs
provide injury prevention programs such as car seat clinics, bicycle
rodeos, Safe-Sitter baby-sitting programs and a variety of injury prevention
initiatives locally and regionally.
