Part Time Community Services Driver

Career Description

The Community Services Driver is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of residents and staff during transportation to and from the center, on program trips, and resident scheduled appointments.  It is the role of the Driver to ensure that the vehicles are in clean and proper working conditions at all times.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs safety checks on the Community Services vehicles each time before operation.
  • Refuels the Community Services vehicles as needed.
  • Drives the Community Services vehicles   in a safe manner following traffic regulations.
  • Completes Usage Checklist, Passenger Waiver, and any other required forms and turns them in to the designated employee weekly in a timely manner.
  • Assists participant riders in getting on and off the bus, unloads groceries or shopping bags, and works with the designated trip escort in the event of an emergency.
  • Regulates heating and cooling for passenger comfort.
  • Follows Town policy guidelines should an accident occur.
  • In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, the employee will be required to perform any other duties assigned by his or her supervisor.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, as hours vary based on programming.  Hours may include afternoon, early evenings and weekends.
  • Contacts Department Head when unavailable to work.
Necessary Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be knowledgeable of safe driving techniques and map reading including possessing a "sense of direction" in locating destinations locally and out of town.
  • Ability to maintain proper records on the use of the bus.
  • Ability to communicate well with participants, and Community  Center Staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious, cooperative, and productive working relationships with the public and other Town employees.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and posted schedules.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and honesty.
  • Ability to appear on time for work and notify the supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Ability to maintain a neat, clean, acceptable personal appearance.
  • Knowledge and/or the ability to learn and utilize safety precautions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in a timely manner to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and follow Town policies and regulations.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Services
  • May receive assignments and supervision from the Director of Elderly Services in the absence of the Director of Community Services.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience.
  • Class A or B State of Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement

 

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATE: Class A or B State of Connecticut Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement

Company Benefits

Part time: 15$ per hour; $17 per hour after 6:00 PM M-F and on weekends.

Salary Range

$15/hr
