POSITION DEFINITION: Under general supervision, perform a wide variety of custodial and maitenance duties in order to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment; and perform related work as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under general supervision of the Head Custodian, independently carries out branch building maintenance in accordance with maintenance procedures and maintenance operational schedule. Responsible for cleaning, dusting, mopping, washing and vacuuming Town buildings as assigned. Empties wastebaskets and replaces light bulbs. Sets up and takes down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms. May make deliveries. May use snow blowers and shovels to clear snow from entrances and walks and use power mower to mow grass. May use hand tools to clear and maintain grounds. Often responsible for opening and closing buildings. Responsible for keeping bathroom and building supplies stocked. Reports building problems to Head Custodian and Operations Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to work independently and prioritize and organize work. Prior experience in building cleaning and maintenance desirable. Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 25 to 50 pounds. Ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow. Ability to effectively communicate building problems in writing and by phone. Willingness and ability to work in any department, and to work evenings and/or weekends.
Beginning pay rate: $15/hr
