The Public Works Department is responsible for the following:

  • Maintenance of Town rights of way
  • Operation of the transfer station
  • Household garbage and recycle pickup

Please use the Public Works Form on the left to submit any complaints or request for repairs.

Bulk Pickups

  • $50 fee (Effective 01/01/2023)
  • Appointments Required. Call (203) 735-6028.
  • Appointments available from May - September
  • Prohibited items:  Mattresses, box springs, brush, demolition/remodeling material and hazardous materials (chemicals, paint, etc.)
  • $15 pre-paid Freon removal fee for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers 
  • $6 per tire. $8 per large tire. All tires must be off the rims.

Transfer Station

  • Fees:
    • Stuffed chairs: $10
    • Love seats/couches: $15
    • $15 pre-paid Freon removal fee for refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers 
    • $6 per tire. $8 per large tire. All tires must be off the rims.
    • Soiled/wet mattresses: $20
    • Waste oil: $1/gallon
    • Leaves/brush: Residents - free. Contractors $60/ton ($20 minimum)
      • Brush and leaves are only accepted on Tuesday, Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 2:45 PM and Saturdays until noon. 
      • Leaves must be removed from non-perishable containers at the site. 
      • Brush is limited to six inches in diameter and six feet in length, grass clippings are not accepted.
    • Construction material/demo: $115/ton ($20 minimum)
      • Contractors are not allowed to dump on Saturdays
  • Electronics recycling
  • Paint disposal information
  • Hazardous waste disposal events are conducted annually.  Information is released as soon as it is available.
  • Public Works conducts annual leaf pickups.  Schedules are released as soon as they are available.

Snow Removal

  • There are 90 miles of road in town. 
  • DPW recycling its resources efficiently

Plow Routes  

  • Streets are plowed and sanded in order of priority. 
  • Main roads are addressed first, paying special attention to steep hills, and problem intersections. 
  • Side streets are next, then dead end roads. 
  • Side streets will remain unplowed if the main roads require repeat plowing.

Blocked Driveways 

  • Snow plows angle to the driver’s right and will push snow in front of driveways. 
  • The home owner is responsible for access to his driveway. 
  • To avoid shoveling twice, wait until DPW crews are finished with their final pass.


  • Property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks in front of their property within 24 hours of the end of a storm.
  • Heavily-used sidewalks near schools are particularly important.
  • Police can and will issue fines if sidewalks are neglected

Mailbox Damage

  • Public Works only repairs or replaces mailboxes and or posts that are struck directly by a plow blade.  
  • Public Works does not repair or replace mailboxes that fall from the force of plowed snow.
  • Mailboxes must be installed to withstand the rigors of snow removal.

Private Plowing

  • Contractors are prohibited from pushing snow from driveways or parking lots into streets. 
  • If there is no alternative, the plow driver must clear the windrow from the street.

Any person discarding debris into any storm drain are subject to littering fines enforced by the Seymour Police Department and/or Seymour Zoning Enforcement Officer.

The Town of Seymour spends a substantial amount of money each year to clean catch basins. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
