Middle School Camp Head Counselor
General Statement of Duties
The Middle School Head Counselor’s primary role is to attend all scheduled off site field trips, act as counselor and manage assistant counselor by providing supervisory assistance in their daily duties and to ensure a safe & positive camper experience.
Essential Responsibilities
· Attend all summer program trips schedules and times Vary within an 8 am - 3 pm day.
· Manage Staff and daily program activities
· Remain with all participants until picked up
· Stay abreast of current camper or counselor issues or problems. Be the first level of contact for such problems and manage the quality of the counseling by assisting with timely resolution of issues with campers.
· Notify Parks & Recreation Manager of any issues as needed
· Develop trust and encouragement with both Counselors and Children by fostering relationships through daily interaction and ensuring no child is left out
· Recognize and respond to teachable moments
· Be concerned and attentive to the health, safety and general welfare of the participants.
· Complete accident/incident reports as needed and follow the accident/incident policy procedure
Minimum Qualifications
· Previous experience working with children in a camp or school setting as a teacher or counselor preferred
· Ability to communicate and work with groups and provide necessary instruction to staff
· Ability and/or previous experience providing supervision and guidance to counselors including enforcement of appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures preferred
· Ability to encourage and motivate others to perform at their best
· Desire and ability to work with children in a camp setting
· Good time management skills and strong work ethic
· Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control and FLEXIBILITY required
Supervision Received
· Reports directly to the Parks & Recreation Manager. Works under the general direction of the Director of Community Services.
Salary
$22.00 Commensurate with experience.
Weekly Hours: 18 hours/week (Typically Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8:30 am – 2:30 pm but may vary based on trips)
