About the Board

The Board of Selectpersons is a seven-member elected board that serves as the town's legislative body (except for setting the annual budget).

Powers & Responsibilities

This board has the authority to:

  • Enact, amend, or repeal ordinances
  • Create, amend, or abolish boards, departments, or positions (by 2/3 vote)
  • Contract with state and federal governments
  • Call Special Town Meetings; accept or abandon roads
  • Administer purchases for non-education boards
  • Incur debt and conduct real estate transactions on behalf of the Town
  • Require quarterly reports from other boards
  • Act as a public conduit for petitions and issues
