Composition

The Economic Development Commission consists of five (5) members, each appointed administratively by the First Selectman or First Selectwoman. Members serve three-year terms.

Purpose and Authority

The Economic Development Commission exercises the powers, duties, and responsibilities outlined in the Connecticut General Statutes, as amended, governing Economic Development Commissions. The Commission establishes operational directives to be carried out by the First Selectwoman or her designee.  

Responsibilities

The Commission’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching economic conditions and trends within the Town
  • Recommending actions to appropriate Town officials and agencies to improve economic conditions and development
  • Coordinating activities to promote economic development within the Town
  • Advertising and preparing promotional materials, including books, maps, charts, and pamphlets, to further the Commission’s official purposes
  • Making recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission regarding potential amendments to the Town’s comprehensive plan or zoning regulations
  • Conferencing with economic development commissions of neighboring municipalities to coordinate infrastructure, utility, and wastewater planning
  • Promoting commercial and industrial development while working with other Town agencies to advance economic development goals
