About the Board
The Board of Selectpersons is a seven-member elected board that serves as the town's legislative body (except for setting the annual budget).
Powers & Responsibilities
This board has the authority to:
- Enact, amend, or repeal ordinances
- Create, amend, or abolish boards, departments, or positions (by 2/3 vote)
- Contract with state and federal governments
- Call Special Town Meetings; accept or abandon roads
- Administer purchases for non-education boards
- Incur debt and conduct real estate transactions on behalf of the Town
- Require quarterly reports from other boards
- Act as a public conduit for petitions and issues
