The Assessor’s Office prepares the annual grand list of taxable and non-taxable property by assessing and valuing real estate, business personal property, and motor vehicles throughout Seymour.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Locate and identify all taxable property in Seymour

  • Inventory property quantity, quality, and key characteristics

  • Estimate taxable property values and determine taxability

  • Calculate assessed values and prepare assessment roll

  • Notify property owners of assessed values

  • Defend valuation methods during taxpayer appeals

  • Blind and disabled taxpayer exemptions

  • Manufacturing and zone exemptions

  • Private college and hospital exemptions
