Snow Removal

  • Seymour maintains 90 miles of roads

Plow Routes:

  1. Main Roads (priority for steep hills and intersections)

  2. Side Streets

  3. Dead-End Roads
Side streets may remain unplowed if main roads require repeat plowing.

Blocked Driveways:

  • Snowplows push snow to the rightβ€”driveways may be blocked

  • Homeowners are responsible for clearing access

  • To avoid double-shoveling, wait until plowing is complete

Sidewalks

  • Property owners are required to clear sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm ends

  • Sidewalks near schools are especially important

  • Police may issue fines for non-compliance

Mailbox Damage

  • Public Works will repair/replace only if struck directly by a plow blade

  • No replacement for boxes damaged by plowed snow force

  • Mailboxes must be sturdy enough to withstand snow removal

Private Plowing Rules

  • Contractors may not push snow from driveways or lots into the street

  • If unavoidable, they must remove the windrow from the street

⚠️ Storm Drain Warning

Illegal to discard debris into storm drains
Violators are subject to littering fines enforced by:

  • Seymour Police Department

  • Seymour Zoning Enforcement Officer
